The last 3 1/2 weeks have seemed like a whirlwind of diapers, spit-up, crying, and of course a few happy moments in between. It has been quite an adjustment for all of us having another little being in our home, but one well worth all the sweat and tears!

Ryder is already changing so much and I love just snuggling his little body and watching all his expressions as he sleeps (when he does sleep that is:)) He is still trying to get used to life outside the womb and his tummy is having all the problems that are to be expected at his new age! I guess my kids are just bound to be screamers for the first several months of their lives because we have got two for two now but as hard and exhausting and quite honestly irritating all the crying is I know in time he will come out of this phase and be the fat, happy baby I ordered! :)
It is crazy how with your first you are so anxious for them to grow up so you can watch them pass through all the milestones but I am finding with Ryder I am content with keeping him tiny.
Kaysia has been well...a typical two year old going through a HUGE change! We have our good moments and our BAD ones. But all in all I say that given the circumstances she is doing just fine. Much to her defense I am convinced I created my own monster. With all the fatigue and inability to focus hardly any attention on her since Ryder is so fussy...I am quick to scold over VERY UNIMPORTANT things. Something I am really praying for Heavenly Father to help me to stop doing. It breaks my heart everytime I get upset with her over something stupid and she asks "why you gotta be mean-a to me?" in the saddest voice one has ever heard!
I know all she wants is to help me take care of Ryder and have special time with me that she used to get before he was born. Even just a few minutes of me holding her or playing with her works wonders on her emotional stability. So hopefully with time I will learn how to better balance being needed by two and be the Mom that I want to be instead of the beast I feel like I am right now.

Wow...anyway, I guess I really needed to get that out. Don't get me wrong we are happy here at the Pratt home. Just trying to figure out how to live life differently than we used to. We are so excited for Christmas and to actually be able to see Tyler for a few weeks before he goes back to school! Here are a few pictures from the last few weeks. Until next time!

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; She was being so funny modeling it for daddy in the bathroom after I did her hair. We luckily caught some pictures! She just kept saying "Its so cute!" Thats her new phrase. She sees little animals on the TV or outside and she gets this little high squeaky voice and says "Its so cute, I want to hold it Momma." It makes us laugh everytime.

As time gets closer for baby #2 to come into this world I think about how different life will be with two kids and how I will no longer have the ability to focus all my attention on Kaysia and part of me feels really sad. I know it is the natural cycle of things but she is my whole world right now and every little thing she says and does is exciting and huge! I just sit and watch her sometimes and I pray that I can still make her feel important even though I will have another distraction! She is such a special little girl. She has a spirit that is so passionate and determined. Its like her spirit is mature beyond her mortal years and its just bursting to break free. I am constantly in awe at how intelligent she is and I wonder how someone like me can be the one raising someone so incredible! Thats why Heavenly Father is there to help I guess. Cause I know I couldn't help her be the person she needs to be without Him!

Sorry for the little tangent. I am just at a huge turning point in life and naturally am getting thoughtful! :) One of these days I want to do a post about all the stuff Kaysia is doing and talk about specifics of her personality but for now this will have to suffice! Hopefully next time I will be posting about our new addition! Until then pray it comes SOON!

Little Lambie

Kaysia with 2nd cousin Sadie!

I absolutely love this picture of her.

This year we decided since Kaysia is so attached to her "Lambie" ( a stuffed animal/puppet she got as a baby, but just latched onto this summer in Houston for some reason) that we would have her be a Lambie for Halloween. I saw the costume at Burlington and just had to get it. She looked absolutely adorable and had so much fun playing with cousins at the Hayes family party. She of course was traumatized by everyone elses costumes and couldn't take her eyes away from "the cow" aka Uncle Wade. She had to watch his every move. It was hilarious.

Halloween was special for me this year. I had to miss her first time going trick or treating last year because I was still working so I was extremely excited to see her in action this year. She was so stinkin cute. She would march up to the door...wait patiently...say trick or treat as soon as they opened the door...grab her candy and then thank them politely. Its amazing how much more enjoyable holidays are with kids. I just love watching her figure things out and how exciting it is for her to learn about all the different things this world has to offer.Attempting to play a Halloween game

Tyler and Jones...Oh wait that is actually Jesse just dressed up like Ty! Again this post is very much belated but I think after this I should be up-to-date! My birthday landed on Conference weekend this year like it so often does and we decided to spend Sat and Sun up at my parents house. Kaysia had a blast playing with Gma and Gpa while Ty and I headed up Immigration Canyon to have lunch at Ruby's Diner for my birthday! It was absolutely beautiful going up the canyon with all the leaves changing and the food was phenomenal! I was a bit chilly sitting out on the patio but I wouldn't have had it any other way. It was so nice to just have Ty all to myself for a couple hours without the worry or distraction of a tiny human being! Just the kind of birthday gift I have been needing as of late!

The last couple weeks have been somewhat of a whirlwind. As most of you know (or maybe you don't)...about 3 or 4 wks ago I was changing Kaysia into her pjs and absentmindedly handed her her cheapo CTR ring we got for her this summer when we visited the Houston temple. Usually she doesn't have a problem with small objects but this time she put it in her mouth and because she was laying down when it slipped from her fingers and she began to choke. Instantly all my medical training flew out the window and nothing but panic and fear filled my body as I tried unsuccessfully to help her get it out. I screamed to Tyler to run next door and grab my friend who is a nurse and she came instantly. She started doing the Heimlich but very calmly said we should call 911 because it wasn't coming out.

At this point Kaysia was still gagging and gasping for air along with screaming whenever she was able. Tyler got 911 on the phone and then handed it to me. The lady told me that an ambulance was on its way and to just keep watching Kaysia to make sure she was still breathing. By the time the amb. got here Kaysia was screaming but that was a good sign because she was at least breathing. They checked her lungs and found crackling in the left lung and since she has not been sick they were worried that she had aspirated the ring into her lung and she was rushed to the hospital right away. The EMT's were AMAZING and Kaysia was actually very happy and cooperative in the ambulance as they continued to check her and give her oxygen.

Once in the ER they checked us in and after a quick exam they took her to the x-ray room. Since I am pregnant I could not go in and the "Momma hold you" screaming that echoed through the hospital halls during those 5 minutes were the most heartbreaking I have ever had to listen to. I felt completely helpless. Back in our room she really started to cry and pull at her chest saying that it hurt. And come to find out the ring had not gone into her lungs (thank heavens) but had made it to the esophagus and was stuck. The ER dr explained our options of surgery and what not but told us to wait and talk to the ENT who was on his way. This ENT was very straight forward and said if it were his child he would wait until morning to see if it would move on its own. It was far enough down that surgery (which really was just them putting her out and then sticking a camera down to get the ring) would be more risky and that he felt confident it would move on its own and make it to her stomach without any damage. Ty was a bit apprehensive but I felt very peaceful when we decided to just go home and wait it out.

Kaysia slept great that night and the next morning I took her in for an x-ray and it had made it to her stomach. After making Kaysia fast for 13 hours we FINALLY saw the dr and were told that she could eat and to just watch for the ring.

I am proud to announce that 10 DAYS later...after intensely searching each poopie diaper...and trying not to throw up...it did come out! Kaysia begged to hold it for a solid 10 min before I convinced her we would get a new one not covered in poop!

Long story I know but it had to be documented. It was a scary experience for everyone involved but a good learning one as well. Kaysia is now VERY good about not putting small objects in her mouth and always says "we don't eat toys, only dinner." I am just grateful that Heavenly Father was with us that night and that although traumatizing this experience did not end in unfortunate tragedy like so many do.

Almost there....almost

So I am officially ALMOST caught up. I thought I would just recap September in a nutshell of sorts. Having Ty go back to school was definitely an adjustment after having him all to ourselves for the month of August. Even him working all summer we saw him more than we do during the school year so Kaysia and I were not really looking forward to him going back. But since this is his last year we decided we could do it! Kaysia gets really jealous that he gets to go to school though and every morning she watches for the school bus that stops right outside our window to pick up the grade school kids and she BEGS to go to school too. She has even started wearing her backpack around pretending she is going. She will head for the door and yell "Bye Momma...going to school...see you later!" It breaks my heart but is so super cute that I just have to smile and say "ok see you after school!" After several meltdowns when she realized I was not serious I finally convinced her that next year she will go and she seems to be ok with that idea.

The second weekend in Sept. Kaysia and I headed up to Farmington to help watch my sister Cher's kids while she took a much deserved trip to Cali to see Wicked with her inlaw girls. Kaysia had so much fun playing with Rex, and Osten. They were so silly together. I was glad that she finally was able to have some other human interaction besides me. She doesn't play with anyone down here cause I haven't been good about making playdates. So everytime she sees her cousins she is thrilled!

Her new favorite outfit! Sorry. Endure. The next week Kaysia and I took a little trip down to St. George with my friend Tonya and her little boy Carsen. We left a day after them so I had to drive 3 hours all by myself. I have never driven that far...let alone by myself so I was a bit worried but Kaysia was amazing and it went really well. We had such a fun time down there just playing in the sun and working on crafts! Her parents were absolutely wonderful and Kaysia was VERY sad to leave given that they have three dogs! I didn't get many pics...but here are a few of the splash pads that we went to!

...asking for trouble...

Ignore the ugly shadow. That week at home was super busy, but super fun! We went up to Park City for a day and rode the Alpine Slide and the other new ride they have. Kaysia also got to ride some rides all by herself and she was in HEAVEN. She did NOT want to leave that train. The drive up north was a bit long being pregnant and such especially after just moving but we made it safely and were able to have a great week with Tyler's family. Even his Gpa flew out from Toronto for a few days which was really nice! I will say that I got a horrible cold the day after we got there and spent the week feeling quite miserable. But still...better to be doing exciting things while you feel like dying rather than just sitting at home. Some of the things we did were: Visited the Calgary Zoo, met baby Everee (Tyler's brother Ryan and his wife Camilla's baby), played at the park, fed the ducks after our girls night dinner, and a plethera of other fun things. Here is a small collage of a few of our outings!

Let's start at the very beginning...

Okay so as I was looking through all my pictures (and feeling quite honestly a bit overwhelmed since I really want to document everything cause this is basically my journal) I decided to just start back at our last week in Texas. I know it seems like ages ago but I just couldn't comprehend not telling the whole story from when I last left off! So here it goes...

Here are some pictures of our last week. Tyler's parents along with Alexa, and Kaiti came to visit the last week we were in Houston. We had tons of fun eating delicious Mexican, visiting the Houston Aquarium and of course CLEANING! We could not have moved out without them. They helped clean and move everything into the truck which was AMAZING!

Now here are just some pictures I took the night before we flew out. I must say that although I was anxious to get back home to Utah I did cry as I said goodbye to Park Place. It was a wonderful and beautiful place to live and we had so many good experiences there. Part of me still misses things about it. Hopefully someday we have a chance to go see our "2009 summer adventure" stomping grounds again. Until then. Goodbye 721!

Our main hang out spot. It was AMAZING! It out did the Discovery place at Gateway by a million. Granted we couldn't enjoy all of its fantastic features since Kaysia is only two and would have been trampled by the insane crowds...but what we did see was awesome and we stayed for a whole two hours! Go me! It was right in downtown Houston and I was a nervous wreck driving there but we made it there and back safely and loved every minute! Here are some pics of what we got to play with!

Rain Rain DON'T Go Away

Come EVERY DAY....PLEASE!

A bit of relief has finally made its way to Houston! For instance this last week was Kaysia Mae's 2nd Birthday! I can hardly believe it was TWO whole years ago my sweet baby girl was born! Some days it seems like yesterday others a lifetime! I can't imagine my world without her in it and even though there are days I want to run screaming into the night the majority of the time she brings so much joy into our lives that it erases all else. We had a rough start her and I...and when I think back to how dark those days were and how different things are now I am so grateful to my Heavenly Father that we made it through and are that much better because of it all! I read a few days ago that toddlers are a constant display of explosive emotion! Whether its happy or sad everything is in the moment and right at the surface. I don't love that about Kaysia at the grocery store when she is throwing a huge tantrum...but I DO love it when it involves big hugs and kisses. Big smiles and shouts of joy. Like when I tell her we are going swimming and she throws her hands up in the air and yells "YAY YAY YAY!!" Or in the morning when I hear her yelling "Momma where are you?" and as soon as I open the door she throws her arms open and says "Momma Coming, Momma Coming!" and hugs me so tight it makes my heart burst!
I truly love her so much and I feel so incredibly blessed that Heavenly Father would trust such a special spirit with someone like me. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my little Weez! I love you more! :)

San Antonio

Well we officially went on our FIRST family vacation this last weekend! Yes our first...as in no parents or anything...we are so grown up! :) No but seriously it was the first time we have gone anywhere with just our little family and we had so much FUN! We left the morning of Kaysia's birthday (the 2nd) and we spent the afternoon shopping in San Marcos at Prime Outlets...rated #2 best shopping in the world by the women on "The View". It was extremely hot but the stores were gorgeous and the prices were not too shabby so we were able to splurge a bit and buy each of us some new shirts. Then we continued on to San Antonio and checked into our hotel.
My parents so generously allowed us to use some Marriott points and so we were able to stay at the Townplace Suites. We took enough food to eat most of our meals there since it had a full kitchen-which turned out to be so great since our budget is tight these days! And I just have to say for the record that Kaysia slept like an angel both nights. We were VERY worried about how she was going to sleep in the same room with us but each night after I laid her in the playpen she would simply say "Momma?" and once I told her I was there she would lay down and go to sleep! It was amazing! A huge milestone for us!
Anyway, the next day we went down to the Riverwalk and Market Square and after a LOT of walking and sweating we finally rode the bus back to our car which turned out to be the highlight for Kaysia. She was not happy when we had to get off! We spent the rest of the evening swimming and enjoyed a nice steak dinner at a place called Canyon Cafe near our hotel.
Originally we had planned to go see the Alamo but because of the holiday weekend and the large crowds we decided to just head home Saturday morning! With it only being 2 1/2 hrs away it really was not a bad drive at all and we were able to do so much! Thanks again Mom and Dad for hooking us up we owe you big time! Here are a few pictures from our trip...and no I did not get any of the hotel which I am mad about but what can ya do?

Bear With Me...Picture Mania!

I FINALLY GOT A CAMERA CORD! YAY! I know you all have just been DYING to see the gazillion pictures we have taken the past 6 weeks since arriving in Houston. So instead of taking a nap while I am free from the terrorizer I thought I would do a few posts! :) I just have to say too that we are really enjoying our time here. Not so much the 104 not-including-humidity degree weather but the overall experience itself. We have seen and done a lot of fun things and have eaten some really delicious food. But best of all we have been able to spend more time with Daddy who luckily does not have to spend all his spare time at night and on weekends studying! Hallelujiah!
For documenting sake I also have to say that Kaysia has grown up a lot these past few weeks and is learning new things all the time. She can finally sing the ABC's and does a pretty good job staying on tune :) She swims all over the pool with her little floaties on just singing all the different songs that her movies (and me :)) have so graciously taught her. She makes us laugh all the time with her constant talking that still makes very little sense and at the end of the day (even the bad ones) I find that I can't wait to see her again in the morning! She loves or rather is obsessed with animals...specifically dolphins and her lambie...eats popcorn chicken, carrots/ranch, and salsa like they are going out of style and begs for cookies constantly hoping that I will give in and feed them to her all day long. Which I don't...so don't worry. My absolute favorite thing is to see her clonking around with my shoes on...in her diaper (because of course she learned how to take her clothes off) pushing her empty stroller-holding all her fav toys-singing at the top of her lungs "I am a Child of God". That my friends is the reason I get up in the morning. That and egg salad sandwiches that I just found out are really delightful. Anyway, enough talking...enjoy the pictures!

I got out of the shower and couldn't find Kaysia anywhere. We had a ton of fun riding the rides, walking the boardwalk and of course SWEATING more than the average human does in their lifetime! But hey it was all part of the experience. An hour drive from our apartment and we were looking out on the ocean...just glad to be together! It was a really awesome place and maybe someday when it isn't so hot we will go back there and spend a bit more time enjoying the sites and culture of the Kemah Boardwalk.

Some of the rides were free for 2 and under so we took advantage...i think I may have enjoyed it more than she did! Our apartment is very NICE and neat and looks right out onto the pool and the gorgeous trees and walking path that weave around the complex! We got VERY lucky and feel so blessed to be able to be in such a beautiful place surrounded by so much to do! We DON'T have internet though so unfortunately I won't be able to blog any pictures until we get back in August but I may write a few clips every now and then to let you all know whats going on and to keep a record of our time here so I don't forget!

I just have to say too that Kaysia is already a pro swimmer. Our first day here we stuck some floaties and a life jacket type swimsuit thing on her and after only a few minutes she was rearing to go all by herself and loves to just paddle around the pool! She really is so brave and we are incredibly happy that she likes to swim so much because I am pretty sure that is all we will be doing most days!

Anyway, hope you are all happy and well and that you have a TON of fun this summer! I feel like we are on a 3 MONTH vacation and it feels SO great to just be able to relax and soak up the Houston experience! So until next time...Chow!

what happens at Maugas...

...happens to be just the way we like her! :)

Easter Overload

I know I am a bit late on posting all this stuff but we have kind of been a little crazy busy these past few weeks and so blogging has not been top priority. But we had a fun time up at Mauga and Bompas on the Saturday before Easter. Kaysia didn't quite understand why she was supposed to run like a madman and pick up the colored eggs but once she found out they had candy in them she was totally down. She even decided to eat everyone elses candy while no one was looking. It was so nice to see everyone and enjoy good company (and FOOD)! We are really going to miss all the family gatherings this summer!

Helping Gma get things cleaned up for the Easter Party!

Gma...Squared

The mad chase...

Counting her "goods"

We actually got her to pose with her hands on her knees. In case you are wondering what the heck I am talking about...

Ty made brownies about 3 weeks ago for his home teachees. However, they didn't get covered and dried out so much they became bricklike. He tried to pry them out of the pan with a knife and when they finally popped loose the knife slipped up and went right into his hand. You can only imagine his response to seeing blood splash on the walls and pool in his hand. We rushed him to the ER and they sewed him up but told us he needed to see a hand surgeon because he had lost feeling in two fingers. Well to make a LONG story short he had to get surgery to repair two nerves and so now we just have to wait and see if he gets feeling back! Now would be an excellent time for anyone who wants to revenge themselves in golf! :)

There was much more blood than you can see but I thought I would be conservative!

Run 1/2 Marathon-Check!

I DID IT! I ran my 1st HALF MARATHON! I definitely didn't run it in my initial goal time but considering the fact that I haven't run more than 1-2miles at a time since the end of February due to severely painful overuse injuries...I am just proud that I was able to finish the race at all! The weather didn't help with the wind and the snow beating down with every step but surprisingly I still really enjoyed myself. I will admit around mile 11 I was ready to find a nice piece of road to lie down on and die but thanks to some cute girls I met on the trail I kept running through the pain and ended up finishing strong!
My parents, Tyler and Kaysia were standing about 100 feet before the finish line cheering when I came around the corner and they gave me that extra boost of energy I needed to sprint the last bit to the end! Knowing that they would be there really helped keep me going during the rough patches along the trail and I couldn't be more grateful for all the love and support I felt as I was running.
I especially just have to tell Tyler how much I appreciate his support through all of this. The past 12 weeks he has been so understanding and helpful as I have spent quite a bit of time training. Not only that but he has put up with me being extremely tired and has weathered all the ups and downs that come with preparing for such an event! So thanks babe. I really owe you big time!!!
Okay I know this has turned into a novel. But here are some pictures from the last few feet of the race! It was so cold we didn't get too many pics but here are at least a few.

Seconds before I started sprinting to beat the girls that kept me going the last 2 miles!

I didn't cool down slow enough and my heart started to feel like it was going to stop beating! On top of some pretty wicked bad colds she has also been cutting all 4 Canine teeth. Not a fun process when you are coughing your lungs up and can't breath out of your nose! But I think we have done pretty good...a little sleep deprived but good nonetheless. Well I am sleep deprived...but Kaysia found a new favorite spot to sleep. The couch. On her "piplo".
